Perfectminimal

"Ubuntu’s Minimal ISO gives users an extremely flexible system for building customised Ubuntu systems. It installs a basic CLI environment, to which additional packages can be added. This requires a certain depth of familiarity with the required packages and dependencies.

Perfectminimal is an attempt to automate the process of using the Miminal ISO so that it can be used more easily."

Floppix

"Floppix is a teaching tool; it is a very small subset of Debian/ GNU Linux that fits on two 3.5" 1.4Mb diskettes. The current version is derived from Debian 2.1 (slink), copyright under the GNU GPL "copyleft". It provides a platform to practice linux commands and experiment with simple system administration.

Floppix has no hard drive support; you cannot access, modify, damage or destroy anything installed on the hard drive. For this reason, Floppix works safely in the lab, at home or at work.

Floppix runs from a RAMDISK. Since the entire filesystem is stored in RAM, all changes are lost when the system is shutdown or rebooted. This makes it possible to experiment freely; if you want (or need) to start over, all you have to do is reboot. For example, if you want to know what is left after the superuser has deleted the entire filesystem, Floppix is the place to try it."

Pocket Linux 2.51

"Pocket Linux is an almost minimal, one floppy linux system designed to quickly convert PC workstation into secure linux-based workstation using ssh to connect to remote host (other networking clients are also supported). It supports bootp for determining host IP and other network parameters (there's also manual configuration possible, but bootp is recommended).

In addition to workstations equipped with a network card (ethernet or arcnet), you can also use Pocket Linux on a PC equipped with a modem. Modem is automatically detected and then PPP connection is made.

The idea came up some time in 1996 or so. The distribution then was not perfect, but still it shown it was a great idea. It wasn't maintained for about year or so, until I took it up again in the early January 1998. After a complete rebuild Pocket Linux 2.00 was released. It soon gained a huge number of happy users, whose ideas helped its development.

My aim is to provide a small and efficient workstation that autoconfigures as much as possible and lets securely use the network from almost everywhere. Current version is a nice attempt and future ones will enhance the automation and support for various network equipment and protocols, becoming a total solution. Future plans also include side projects like one floppy router."

Nuclinux

"Nuclinux is a single floppy linux-distribution which fits on one 3.5 inch floppy. It's designed primarily to connect to the Internet from a networked machine (as I do at school).

Main features:

* bash 1.4
* links (a full featured internet browser), ssh, irc, ftp, telnet, finger
* ftp-server (muddle ftp), telnet server
* vi (elvis) and joe texteditors
* rna: mail(pop3)/news(nntp)-reader
* new kernel (2.2.18) (.config included)
* usefull script to connect into the (Inter)net, they make it easy to use your floppy in many different machines
* tetris
* Free space at the beginning of the disk for saved mails, passwords etc..., optimized so, that non-used space is like a readwrite minix "partition"."

JayOS-20110214

JayOS is a live CD Linux distribution intended for use as a more secure mobile environment. It integrates in-RAM filesystem encryption with plausible deniability for a system that can be difficult to alter without rebuilding. This offers a user with a high degree of data integrity; since all filesystems are either static or encrypted, the system is resistant to physical attacks. It features many development, network security, and filesystem tools, and host virtualization with QEMU. This distribution runs well on systems where hardware resources might be minimal. 128MB RAM will allow for an well-equipped CLI and shell-tool environment, while a fully functional standard desktop will run swiftly and entirely from 1 GB of RAM. It is based on Linux From Scratch.

This release includes images for booting Linux on a Mac Mini using USB drives only. It supports all native hardware, including Apple Airport Extreme. If you have two 1GB USB sticks... and a Mac Mini, follow the brief instructions on the Website to try Linux on your Mac. This procedure was tested on a second-generation Mac Mini. YMMV with iMacs, Macbooks, and Macbook Pros, although the author has had success with the non-unibody Macbook Pro. This release will not install anything, overwrite, or even access the internal hard drive. It is completely housebroken, and safe for testing and use.

- will fix MangOeS desktop config files
- removed USB image build as it's not displaying/selecting locale properly. (i think opensuse change their scripts)

* NEW - preload .iso is available for testing *NOTE: THIS BUILD WILL WIPE OUT YOUR ENTIRE HARD DRIVE
Use this if you do not want to run a live environment to install Linux MangOeS. This is actually faster to install than the Live CD.

* Unetbootin and Linux Live USB Creator are confirmed NOT to work with .ISO and USB/Hard Drive Image - must use Suse Studio Imagewriter

- Rumored and unconfirmed: installed on a cellphone and was able to boot a computer from it
- Replaced Banshee with XNoise (testing - no ipod,android sync support)
- login/logout sound added (needs testing)
- new midori 0.29 will be tested

nTPV LiveCD

"nTPV LiveCD is based on Knoppix and was made by Carlos Manzanedo. It makes easy to test nTPV without any kind of installation or modification on your hard drive.

All you have to do is booting up your computer from nTPV LiveCD and let nTPV load to evaluate its main features.

Use and requirements.
Computer requirements

* Pentium II-500 processor or better
* 256 MB RAM (128 if you have a linux SWAP partition)
* 1024x768 capable graphic system
* CDROM drive
* A mouse

Using nTPV LiveCD

All you need to test nTPV LiveCD is a computer that can boot from the CDROM/DVD drive. Almost any computer nowadays has this feature out of the box. Should your computer have a different setting, please read your computer documentation on how to access the BIOS setup (usually pressing the F1, F2 or DEL keys when booting) and on how to change the booting sequence so that the CDROM drive tries to boot before your hard drive does.

Once the CDROM starts booting, please be patient to let the system do all the startup instructions for nTPV load and run. Booting from CDROM are far slower than booting from your hard drive. Once nTPV is running you can test its features. If you want to learn more about nTPV usage, you can take a look at the manuals (only available in Spanish for the moment).

To access the administration and backoffice of nTPV you will have to insert the default password "1234". Please remember that a LiveCD runs only in RAM, so any change in configuration or any data entered will be lost when you shutdown the system.
Important notes on nTPV LiveCD

nTPV LiveCD has an obsolete version of nTPV and lacks the modules functionalities, please refer to nTPV VBox for an up to date system prepared for production environments with full functionality.

nTPV LiveCD is configured in Spanish, and has nTPV version 1.0."
