"VoIPonCD - an easy to configure Voice over IP PBX

Easy to configure VoIP-PBX with prepaid billing system for companies and providers

VoIPonCD is a software PBX for connecting Voice over IP telephones to it based on the Asterisk VoIP PBX. Normally you need much time knowing how Asterisk works, especially when you want to connect more than up to 10 users. In big environments you will go a special way when using Asterisk named as the realtime mode which means that you put all your data into a database rather than using files. For somebody who just wants to use a PBX but doesn't want to read a big book about how to accomplish this he can insert VoIPonCD and everything is done with just a few mouse clicks due to the easy to use webinterface in combination with the underlying scripts. I just finished VoIPonCD as a thesis for my degree (Dipl.-Ing. like Master) whilst at university in Cologne, Germany. In a simple case you use VoIPonCD as your home VoIP PBX with an easy to use webinterface. In an enhanced, professional environment you can use this appliance for getting multiple instances of VoIPonCD to get a hosted PBX for every customer (like virtual servers but in this case a virtual PBX). The customer can connect his telephones to one appliance running at at big system which is capable of using many instances of this appliance for serving the customers each with his own fully configurable PBX.

The appliance is based on the Debian Linux appliance. I added all the scripts, servers and the webinterface to it, shut the server down and compressed the directory to the zip file. I've done this in a few easy steps by just getting the original VoIPonCD installation script from my server which has downloaded the programs like apache webserver, MySQL database (apt-get in debian style) and copied all the scripts to the right places. Changes to the Debian appliance were not necessary, it just worked from the beginning.

BugnuX 2007

"Bugnux is a complete Linux (mandriva) distribution that runs from a single bootable CD and runs entirely in RAM. Bugnux contains an extensive set of Open Source software testing tools that can be used for functional and performance testing. Standalone Tools to test GUI applications and Mozilla Firefox extensions pre-installed to aid in web application testing have been packaged. This virtually can turn any PC into black-box testing device without having to install any software. Bugnux also contains a set of stress and load testing tools that can be used to assist in testing performance of web applications. [...]

The BugnuX team is proud to release the final version of BugnuX2007, after many sleepless/partyless nights. The key features of this version are that the default Window Manager is Enlighenment 0.17. Yes, E17 is still in beta, but it has some very nifty features. Since it is in beta, we have also included the latest stable version of Fluxbox, as an alternative, just in case...

The other important feature is that we have our own repository (fully compatible with PCLinuxOS 2007) with all the testing tools(marathon, jacareto, CurlLoader), E17, OPenBox, FluxBox, Rox, idesk, etc."

Polippix 2.0 Beta

"Polippix is political statement in a bootable CD. It presents several IT-political problematics like how to stay anonymous and avoid censorship on the internet. It also helps the user to break DRM'ed media, like copying a dvd.

The danish IT-Political Association started making Polippix as a protest against the recent antiterror laws being passed in Denmark and the way they impact innocent citizens. The CD has been immensely popular. After being sent out to 12.000 IT-professionals in a partnership with PROSA, it hit the national news and more than 25.000 danish people downloaded it from the internet.

Polippix was originally based on Knoppix. In the latest development snapshots it is based on Kubuntu 7.10"

NimbleX 2008RC

Since Beta there are major differences and it's the closest thing I can imagine to final version. Actually the main reason for calling it RC is the eventuality some important bug sneaked in.

The important highlights since beta are:

* lost 16MB to be back to 200MB
* Addition of the NimbleX USB Installer
* Improvements to the Safe Installer
* NimbleX is now split in 9 for greater flexibility
* Added important software like: LinuxDC++, Avidemux and the GSlapt Package Manager
* Polished many things so that it pleases the eye :)
* Compiz was added and configured in NimbleX. For starters, everyone that has a 3D card supported out of the box by X can enjoy the 3D effects. Hopefuly, in the future, people will contribute to package drivers for this feature.
* many more other changes

Empty Crust

"Empty Crust is a barebones version of Puppy 1.0.7. Basically, Mozilla, the sound libs, pdf junk, and many other things were torn out. Basic utilities, gftp, pupget, and an enhanced Dillo were left. It is roughly 45 megabytes. The name is because it's like being suppied with an empty crust and being allowed to build your own custom pizza upon it (the reason for the pizza reference is due to its creator's "slight" insanity. [...]

Stuff to Know

* Empyt Crust uses pupMINI
* Empty Crust has no sound libraries
* Nearly everything removed can be put back with Pupget
* If you wish to use a boot loader, you will have to supply the ramdisk size (ramdisk_size=16200) or you'll get a kernal panic.
* Dillo (with tabs) is the default (and only) browser
* Leafpad is the default texteditor
* Vi and MP are also in there, just in case
* Reboot bug has been fixed/worked around

* Swapped out a couple icons (multimedia, MUT, install-packages, maybe more)
* Replaced default wallpapers with small tileable wallpapers made for it by PizzasGood
* Modified Rox option file to have outlined icon names on the pinboard (looks much nicer)
* Added default bookmarks to Dillo
* Upgraded burniso2cd so it can blank cdrw disks
* Reboot bug has been fixed/worked around

* Mo-Betta Wallpaper-Setta
* Rarsa's Enhanced Network Wizard (v20)
* GuestToo's SP107
* Enhanced Dillo (tabs)"

ttylinux 7.0

ttylinux is a minimalistic GNU/Linux distribution. The distribution aims to fit into 8 megabytes of space and run even on 486 class computers, but provides a rather complete command line environment and is prepared for Internet dial-out.

Target audience
For end users, ttylinux provides a basic Linux system that can be installed on a low-end computer and used to access the Internet and World Wide Web. A bootable CD-ROM version that can run out-of-the-box on most PC systems is available. There is also an installer that can install the distribution onto hard disk after booting from the CD-ROM version. More experienced users can download a filesystem image of the distribution to put on arbitrary boot media.

For developers, ttylinux can be used as a base for building your own minimalist Linux distribution. Full source code is available, including a modularized build system that automates distribution builds and makes it easy to take packages out of the system or add new ones.

A new version of iloog (iloog-8.02) is finally ready after 4 months since our last release (iloog-7.10). This new version does not bring tons of new features but it's much more polished and robust than the previous one and has quite a few bugs squashed.

Some of the changes include:

  • Patched 2.6.22 kernel against the recent local root exploit
  • QT4 support! QT programmers will certainly like this new addition
  • Removed some bloated programs and replaced them with some lighter ones (eg graveman instead of K3B)
  • Added another IDE, glade!
  • Added Pascal compiler (gpc)
  • Support for new revision control software like git and mercurial
  • Added support for via and sis graphics drivers in Xorg
  • Some iloog tools got a dialog interface
  • Added some programs by greek developers like: indywiki, jIPFire, pluto, pysmssend and QGRUBEditor
  • New Tango icons for the desktop
  • Some minor changes to Fluxbox's menu and theme
  • Of course there are also the usual updates to all the included programs to their most recent stable versions plus the addition of more than 50 new packages.
    We've also written down some crude information on iloog's wiki about the process of "installing" iloog to a hard disk. The process is _NOT_ automatic and whoever tries it must be very careful before executing anything. Read more at the wiki: Install iloog

    You can find some screenshots of iloog-8.02 at ILUG's flickr gallery: iloog-8.02 at flickr

    Absolute 12.1.0 beta8

    "Absolute is a customized Slackware distribution:

    * Assembled to make installation and maintenance of Slackware easier.

    * It is an easy install (no package selection)

    * kernel build that is set to accept CPUs down to a Pentium PRO and tuned for desktop performance

    You CAN run Absolute on a Pentium 200 with 64 MB of RAM (although it would be really slow) -- but with a Pentium II or above and at least 128 MB of RAM you can expect zippy and stable performance

    * Accepts packages made for same Slackware Version, so you can use Slackware software repositories.

    * Auto-mounting is the default, but can be turned off for speed issues on older hardware.

    Absolute is a desktop-oriented Slackware -- lightweight but stable. Secure, in that only root user can install software and configure the system. Basically an IT or system-builder's friend in that it can run nicely on old hardware. Very easy for users to get things done because of the software selection and utilities and documentation -- yet difficult for them to mess things up. [...]

    This is Slackware 12.0 modification.
    This is a beta release because it is based on Slackware-current.
