Installing Debian on an SD Card
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2010-06-17 00:30"This is a guide on how to install Debian onto the microSD card, it DOES NOT replace the default Linux operating system.
==Getting Ready==
#You'll need to root your phone, instructions on [[Rooting_Android]] are there.
#There is an automatic installer package available [http://www.androidfanatic.com/cms/unofficial-app-repo.html?func=fileinfo&id=21 here]. Download it and move it to your microSD card.
#Unzip the installer package, move the entire Debian folder to the root of your SD card. If it isn't this location, it won't work. (It should be /debian)
#Go to the Android Market and download the application called "Terminal Emulator" (if you haven't already), open it after it installs.
#Enter the following commands, hitting enter/return after each line. Authorize the program in SuperUserWhitelist if it asks you.
cd /sdcard/debian
su
chmod 4755 *-->
cd /sdcard/debian
su
chmod 4755 *
#Then type ''installer.sh'' and the installer should run!
==Troubleshooting==
If chmod 4755 * gives you an error stating that you do not have permissions, close Terminal Emulator and run su again, this time when SuperUserWhitelist asks for if you should give Terminal Emulator super user permissions hit yes instead of always.
If running installer.sh tells you that installer.sh could not be found, type su, followed by sh installer.sh."
Privatix 10.02.07
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2010-06-04 22:58"Free portable encrypted system on an usb flash drive or an external hard drive for safe editing and carrying along of sensitive data, for encrypted communication and anonymous web surfing
Not everyone who finds privacy important while using the internet and communicating or is editing sensitive data always has their own computer with a safely set up operating system and the required tools at their disposal or want to carry it with them.
That's why we created the Privatix Live-System (based on Debian GNU/Linux). It is an easy to operate safe and portable system that can be booted from a cd-rom, an usb flash drive or an external hard drive and ensures your privacy and confidentiality while using the internet and communicating or editing and encrypting sensitive data.
Therefore standard applications such as browser, email client, word processor, image viewer and most importantly numerous data protection and encryption software are integrated.
Private data and settings, documents, e-mails, or pgp-keys are not saved on the computer that you use but instead those are saved on the encrypted usb flash drive or on the encrypted external hard drive. In case of loss or theft of the data medium your personal data is going to stay protected by a password.
No free storage space is required, no system needs to be installed or any specific operating system or other programms are necessary on the computer that is used because the whole system and all other applications are loaded from the usb flash drive or from the external hard drive.
This way you can use unknown computers without having to rely on the security of the installed operating system that might be infected with trojans or software keyloggers and without requiring tools to be installed and despite of this mobility preserve high data protection standards or you can create a separate secure environment for very sensitive data or communication (e.g. collective bargaining, online banking, whistleblowing and e-mail encryption) on any external medium in addition to your regular operating system installation."

Want to give Google Android a try, but don't feel like buying a T-Mobile G1/G2/G3? LiveAndroid lets you download a LiveCD disc image of the Google Android operating system. Just burn the image to a disc, stick it in a CD-ROM drive, and reboot your computer and you can check out Android without installing it or affecting any files on your PC.
You can also use the disc image in a virtualization application like VirtualBox, VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC if you want to try the operating system without even rebooting your computer."

Linux MangOeS
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2010-05-09 01:02The Philippine community is culturally proud with it's rich history and never ending strength to grow. But unlike some nations, there is lack of access to information content on the internet and a need for a better computing experience in most rural communities. I've decided to give back something in return for their warmth and compassion that they have shown me for many years. I've become Project Lead for Linux MangOeS. A truly easy, free, and feature rich operating system for the Philippine community. What does this mean for ordinary Filipinos? Personal lives, education, and government can all benefit from its cost reduction as a total replacement operating system for old and new desktops, laptops and netbook computers. And combining that with an internet enabled stick such as a SmartBro, high speed internet access could be available where dedicated land lines cannot reach and for people who need richer functionality than a cellphone.
Current versions: MangOeS and MangKOS (both i386 32bit)
